Shifting Sands: New and Improved C.W. Smidt

What';s changing with C.W. Smidt
That's right, ladies and gents, it's time for a rework. Well... "rework" maybe a little tame. This is more like a full overhaul. We're going to be making some major changes, starting with the website revamp. Stick around to hear more about what to expect next from C.W. Smidt.

Publicity Manager

The first, and perhaps most important, change I’ve made is recruiting one of my friends, BooktokQutiePie, to help me with publicity for my books. I call her a publicity manager, but she is much more than that. She’s my accountability partner, my cheerleader, my kick in the butt when need. We can thank her for the spark that has inspired my entire rework journey.

She is also beginning her career as a booktoker and blogger. Currently, she is accepting invitations for “Indie Author Spotlights”, where she’ll take a week to shower your works with attention and love from her and her audience. It’s a great way to get some extra attention on any work, though she favors romance and fantasy. If you’re an indie author interested in this service, be sure to check out her linktree below. While there, be sure to show her socials some extra love for me.

Website Changes

For those of you who have been following my work, you may have already observed that I’ve embarked on a complete revamp of my site, aiming to modernize its look and improve its functionality. While I love the color purple, there is such a thing as too much. I have already reviewed several of my web pages, including the About Me page, and made some revisions, however, I still have a significant amount of work left to do. If anyone out there has any tips or tricks, please let me know.

A New Newsletter

The biggest change would have to be the Newsletters. I plan on publishing monthly newsletters with updates on my current works, polls about future works, new products, and life updates, should anyone be interested in them.
Signing up for my newsletter will have its benefits, including:

  1. New Product Alerts.
  2. Insights into the life of a super busy indie author who may or may not be slightly neurodivergent (your guess is as good as mine).
  3. Tips and tricks on the writing/editing/marketing process that I learned the hard way.
  4. Bonus material and chapters from my books.

Yes. You read that right. BONUS CHAPTERS and other materials from my books. That means prequel chapters, funny/witty fluff, lore, character profiles, creature features, and more. All in due time, of course.

Big things are coming, guys. Big things.

Social Media

I have been making more funny videos and posts lately on my socials, but I plan on doing even more. I mean mini-vlog updates, informational blog posts, book collections, TBR polling, write with me videos, collaborations, and more!

Now, I will be the first to tell you that I HATE being on camera, but the writing world’s changing. And it’s time for me to change with it. So, if you see me on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, ect., remember:

I know what you’re thinking. You’re asking, “Smidt, why are you making these changes now? What’s with the new and improved you?”

Well, there’s a lot of reasons, including a considerable amount of strong-arming from BooktokQutiePie.

But one of the main reasons I’ve been able to make all of these changes and do things I’ve only dreamed of before is because I’ve been on a mental health journey.

Long story short, I’m much healthier and happier than before, and I’m ready to fill your life with stories.

Writing with ADHD: How to Finish Your First Draft Using Tiny Wins

If you write with ADHD, you already know this isn’t a motivation problem. It’s a task initiation, focus regulation, and dopamine problem. And no amount of “just sit down and write” advice will fix that.

The good news? Writing with ADHD doesn’t mean you’re doomed to unfinished drafts. It simply means you need strategies that work with your brain rather than against it.
